I have a dog named Ginger. She is 11-years-old and was originally a ninth birthday present for my brother Rushil. Funnily enough, it is my father who causes her tail to wag at a ferocious pace. It’s okay. I mean, I get to pat her furry little head from time to time and I’m not the one expected to clean up after her. So I’m pretty satisfied with the arrangement of it all.

Ginger likes to roll around on the carpet. Now, let’s say I watch her do this at least once a day. That would mean I have watched that little sausage body roll from side to side at least 4,015 times. Although that sounds exhausting to witness, if you have a dog (or a dog as cute as mine) you will understand when I say that I ‘ooh and aah’ every single time.

What makes a dog such a loving creature is their behaviour of being there for you at any time. I don’t think many humans can even be tasked with such a heavy responsibility and I say that as someone who arrives late to every planned meet up I have with friends.

Dogs are children that don’t grow up. They remain in this sweet little stage where they are intelligent enough to know directions home, but are innocent to the degree where a squeaky green ball is considered entertainment. Even better, dogs are of lower maintenance than children. Don’t get me wrong, potty training an animal that doesn’t comprehend human language is no easy feat. However, it isn’t like you have to immediately start saving up for a college education.

In retrospect, we did put Ginger through a doggy school for a couple of months. She went to doggy swimming lessons and even grooming days. Sadly, she wasn’t cut out for that basic life. She was, as the saying goes, too cool for school. Okay she was kicked out, it’s the same thing.

I don’t know much, but one thing I hope for is to be reincarnated as a pampered cocker spaniel in my next life.
