The Cancer Crusaders Rugby Festival was a rounding success last weekend as three teams and 45 touring players came together to raise awareness about men’s cancer.

The Bahrain Cancer Warriors, Scottish Crusaders and Irish Crusaders played a round robin tournament, with three games of 30 minutes each. Mehdi Honar, Bahrain Rugby Football Club and Cancer Warriors chairman, was delighted with the support shown.

“The tournament was played in the right spirit … technically the Irish won but politically it was a draw! Rugby was the real winner and hopefully from talking to people who attended, we will
leave a lasting impression on those who perhaps aren’t aware about the dangers of male cancers.”

Duncan Wilson, the Scottish Crusaders captain, has toured Bahrain numerous times and believes that this was the best iteration yet as more teams of all ages took part.

He explained: “It was a fantastic weekend as always, from the hospitality shown to us by the people of Bahrain, the rugby club, and the games themselves. Recently a US Crusaders team has started, and we’re about to get the Welsh Crusaders based in Dubai off the ground.

Then we’re going to look at targeting Australia and New Zealand soon. The more awareness we can spread, the better.”
