Gulf Weekly Tradition comes alive

Traditional Manganiyar and Langa musicians from the Indian desert state of Rajasthan performed at La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art, Manama.

More than 200 people attended the concert, which was presented by the centre to celebrate its Colours of India Exhibition. The six musicians who performed were Chanan Khan Manganiar (on Kamaica), Bhugra Khan (on Dholak), Mehruddin Khan (on Sarangi, Algoza, Morchang and vocals), Gazi Khan (on Kartais and vocals), Barkat Khan (vocals) and Sakur Khan (sufi vocals and harmonium). The performers’ appearance at La Fontaine’s courtyard was staged in collaboration with Theatre de la Ville, in Paris. The Colours of India Exhibition features antique textiles and other objet d’art.
