HOCHTIEF Facility Management is expected to take over facility management at Bahrain International Airport together with its partner Bahrain Airport Company from next March.
The two companies have agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a joint venture. The new company Hochtief Facility Management Bahrain Airport with its 120 employees shall take over responsibility for all technical systems, energy management and infrastructure at the airport.
The contract is planned to have a term of at least 15 years. The targeted volume in the first five years is around EUR70 million (BD34 million).
The memorandum stipulates that Hochtief Facility Management will be handling the technical and infrastructural building management for an area of just under 70,000 square metres from the start of the project.
In addition the company shall optimise the airport's energy supply.
Hochtief Facility Management will contribute its long years of experience from its FM activities at Athens Airport to the project.
At present, some eight million passengers are handled every year at Bahrain International Airport.
By 2010 this figure should increase to 15 million through the construction of a new terminal which Hochtief Facility Management Bahrain Airport would also operate.
Experts currently estimate that the market for facility management in the kingdom has a value of approximately EUR250 million with annual growth of at least 20 per cent.
