ARTIST and interior designer Marianne Pasmans is opening her home to art lovers across the island to showcase her latest collection of paintings entitled 'Hues', writes MAL AL KHATIB.

The white walls of her Hamala home are covered with bursts of colour, ranging from different shades of blues, reds, yellows and more. The canvases vary in size from a few feet to a few metres each more expressive and explosive than the other.

While her previous 'Blue' collection exhibited two years ago highlighted the aquatic shade, her latest assortment is based on an 'integrity' of colours and themes.

The collection displayed in her home will be open to viewing by women on November 10 between 10am-9pm, and to the general public on November 12 and 13 from 10am to 9pm.

Marianne, 45, said: "My home is a working gallery that gives art connoisseurs an idea of how pieces can fit in their own homes.

"My work is more withdrawn now but stronger. I have been told my style is prolific, evocative and diverse. This time around, some of my paintings are solely done with pallet knives and the older concepts have been further developed."

Born in the Netherlands, the artist began drawing from an early age inspired by her city planner and architect father.

She was selected from hundreds of applicants to attend the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht in 1982 graduating with a bachelor's degree in product design, and majoring in textiles and fashion.

Her work can be seen on on display at the Capital Club in Bahrain Financial Harbour and the Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views.

"My art is not based on what is fashionable or trendy. I would hope that the paintings would be enjoyed years from now. I adapt my work to the environment it will be in, the function and the people."

Her work has fetched between BD275 to BD1,500. Aside from painting in her studio at home, Marianne holds art classes on a weekly basis. She said: "I hold six classes for those who have an affinity for art and design. It allows them to 'see through the eyes of an artist'.

Classes are open to all, especially to students interested to further develop their talents. For more details, call Marianne 39922642 or email marianne@ pasmansdesign.com.
