GULFWEEKLY readers will be stepping out in force on Friday in a bid to help 'conquer cancer'.

The Bahrain Cancer Society is organising its annual walkathon in the Seef District with the aim of raising funds and increasing awareness of the disease.

Dr Abdulrahman Fakhro, the society's president, said: "Early detection saves lives due to available means of treating the disease when it is discovered in its early stages. This is the important message we are trying to get across."

The Moon Walk 4 Hope will begin at 6pm on Friday from the north parking lot of the Seef Mall and will end in the same place.

Registration for the walkathon, supported by this newspaper, will start at 4pm on the day of the walk within Seef Mall at a cost of BD2 for adults and BD1 for children up to the age of 10.

All those who join will receive an event T-shirt. The five kilometre walk will be held under the supervision of the traffic police to ensure the safety and management of participants and the success of the event.
