Environment Arabia BC (EABC), formerly known as the British Club of Bahrain and defending champions, started the defence of their crown with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over an impressive Dafoori FC, newcomers to the league.
In a first half of few chances, EABC grabbed a crucial goal just before half time. A sublime finish from the right foot of debutant Craig Bowman finished a flowing passing move and sent EABC into a deserved half-time lead.
Dafoori, cheered on by their vocal and energetic supporters, came out of the blocks hard in the second half and only goalkeeping heroics kept the score the same.
With both teams tiring it soon became a battle of the fittest. EABC finally grabbed what looked like the final strike with about 10 minutes from time, scored by Aziz after another ‘back to front’ passage of play.
However, Dafoori weren’t finished and applied a never-give-up attitude. This ethic will surely stand them in good stead for the remainder of the season, as just before the referee called time, they scored a well-worked goal from outside the box with a crisp strike from Tariq, which left EABC’s ’keeper with no chance.
Unfortunately, it proved to be no more than a consolation as EABC saw out the remainder, without further alarm to secure the points.
