Gulf Weekly Al Qutami dominates

In a stunning performance, Hamad Fares Al Qutami returned home way ahead of all other players in Awali Golf Club’s BMMI Bud-Lite Medal competition, carding a nett-60 (gross-66) score that saw him four shots clear of runner-up Hendrik Wessels (nett-64, gross-73).

Hotshot Hamad was also four shots clear of the player placed second on gross score, Abdulrahman Amin and to further confirm his absolute dominance in the competition, Hamad also achieved the day’s only hole-in-one, on the 199-yard par-3 8th hole.
Not only was Hamad’s score stunning, but so were the temperatures.  In conditions where the mercury rose dramatically compared to the previous week and reaching 37C in the shade, eight players failed to complete their rounds - one delicate flower only lasting three holes and calling for transportation to return to the clubhouse.
This was the 40th occasion of BMMI having provided sponsorship for a Spring Medal competition starting from the 1974/75 season. Prizes were presented by Club Captain Steve Brown on behalf of BMMI.
Despite the climatic conditions, overall scoring was exceedingly good, with all those in the prizes returning scores of nett-67 or better.
Results: Overall and lowest gross score Medal winner - Hamad Fares Al Qutami (nett-60 / gross-66), overall runner-up - Hendrik Wessels (64/73). Flight-1 winner - Barry O’Tauma (65/73), runner-up - Nasser Al Kaabi (65/71). Flight-2 winner - Mahmood Falamarzi (64/78), runner-up - Christian Trzebinski (65/84).
Two other players were presented with prizes, though not for playing in this competition.
Following play in the 26th Bahrain Ladies Open Golf Championship and the subsequent calculation of nett scores, an error was made. So, to correct this and provide the true winners with a small token of glory in front of the paparazzi, Captain Brown presented Joan Martin with her prize for Best-nett Day-2 and Nicki Park with her prize for Best-nett Overall.
