ALL eyes will be on the skies when company big-wigs set about beating their archrivals on the golf course in Bahrain.
The winner of next month’s Qatar Airways’ CEO Golf Tournament 2014 at the Royal Golf Club will be awarded a business class return ticket to any of the airline’s 140 destinations worldwide.
The October 10 event allows top managers to mingle at leisure, although US sports columnist Grantland Rice once famously said 18 holes of golf will teach you more about your foe than 18 years of dealing with him across a desk.
“Golf, over the past several years, has become an important part of doing business in the corporate world,” a spokesman for the organisers said. “After all, there are few places other than a golf course where a person can receive undivided attention for the better part of four hours.
“Through corporate golf programmes, like the CEO Golf Tournament, you can put the fun back into business. Golf provides a beautiful, simple metaphor for our experiences in life and in business. Golf ‘links’ them both!
“Qatar Airways’ CEO Golf Tournament will be one of the biggest and most memorable corporate events of the year. The event offers revitalisation for Bahrain’s corporate heavyweights, giving them an opportunity to network and compete on the greens.”
The event was formally unveiled at a press conference organised by Mind Storm Media along with the title sponsors and associate partners Grant Thornton at Muju restaurant and lounge on Amwaj Islands.
The unveiling of the celebratory jersey was carried out by Chithra Sivaramakrishnan, founder and CEO of Mind Storm Media, and Zeina Safa, Qatar Airways’ country head to Bahrain which was received by Jatin Karia, partner at Grant Thornton.
Although the tournament winner will walk away with the star prize, the runner-up will receive a couple’s package with Club Mahindra for five nights and six days stay at any of its resorts in India.
Even non-golfers can walk away with a prize package with Club Mahindra for three nights and four days. Maserati and Boggi Milano have also come on board as sponsors.
The organisers say they have created a ‘high-profiled networking platform’ with an action-packed fun-filled golf day, catering for CEO golfers, CEO non-golfers and CEO spouses, followed by an evening filled with awards, fine dining and entertainment.
