Gulf Weekly Crowning glory for Al Hakam

Bahraini Sultan Al Hakam was crowned the Royal Golf Club’s Scratch Champion 2016 after beating off a strong challenge from last year’s winner, Hamad Mubarak.

After round one on Friday, brothers Mohamed and Saqer Al Noaimi led the field with three under par scores of 69. Mohamed enjoyed a spectacular run of six birdies in a row from the 9th to the 14th holes. Defending champion Mubarak, eventual winner Al Hakam and Ronan Armstrong lay in joint third place with even par 72 scores.

However, a two under par score for Al Hakam in round two on Saturday was enough to give him the title after Mubarak scored an even par 72 once again and challenger Mohamed Al Noaimi lost his form and went three over par.

“This was a tough competition both mentally and physically, played in high temperatures,” said Sohail Singh, the club’s tournament coordinator. “Well done to everyone who took part and especially to Sultan for a brilliant championship winning score.”

Results:
1st Sultan Al Hakam (72+70=142 total gross score), 2nd Hamad Mubarak (72+72=144), 3rd Mohamed Al Noaimi (69+75=144). 2s Club: Day 1: Saqer Al Noaimi (hole 2) & Hamad Mubarak & Mohamed Al Noaimi (hole 12), Day 2: Phil Sadler (holes 12 & 16).
