Driving ahead with the new season

The new season at Awali Golf Club began on Friday with the annual President v Captain competition.

Prior to the action, the captain’s drive-in took place on the 10th hole where Bill Scarth battled high winds to land his ball on the fairway.

As part of the drive-in, members purchased a marker for BD1 and placed it on the fairway where they thought the captain’s ball would come to rest.

The proceeds were shared between the winner and the captain’s charity. The winner this year was Andrew Hawkins who generously donated his prize to be shared among the brown sweepers who are doing a great job out on the course in hot and windy conditions.

There were some very competitive contests out on the course with many of the matches being decided on the final hole.

Ultimately, the Captain’s Team triumphed by 8 ½ points to 4 ½.
