Members turned out in force last week for
the inaugural Awali Half Cup stableford competition. This new competition,
sponsored by a group of members called TFIG (meaning Thank Friday It’s Golf)
who wanted to put something back into their beloved Awali Golf Club.
An excellent field of 90 players took part
throughout the the day. It was a tale of two halves. The morning players had
calm conditions and Khaled Salem’s gross 64, net 61 for 45 points looked the
likely winner until Jill Allison came in later, unphased by the windy afternoon
conditions, with a magnificent 47 points to claim the trophy.
It was a good day for the ladies with
Nicola Bailey 3rd on 44 points and Ariette Paul 6th on 41 points. 4th and 5th
were Alan Staunton and Abdulla Mubarak with 42 points.
