CHILDREN, parents and staff of St Christopher’s School will still be able to attend the big F1 race in Bahrain next year … despite the sport’s worldwide body changing the provisional date for the event.

Principal Ed Goodwin announced this week that despite the race moving from April 19 to April 26 the school will remain closed to support the kingdom’s major sporting celebration.

It means the children will get two extra days off instead of one because it is too late for the school to reschedule the first day back for the April term.

Mr Goodwin explained: “Our response to this change is that we will still close on April 19 – as announced in the calendar. This will avoid problems for staff and parents who have booked hotels, air flights and have made other arrangements that depend on being closed that day. I know of at least one wedding that will be disrupted if we open that day!

“In addition I can tell you that the school will close on whichever date is finally set for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Currently this has been set at April 26, 2009, but presumably it is possible that this could change again – so if your family isn’t planning to attend the final – please DON’T assume that it will be the 26th and book to be out of Bahrain that day – if it changes to an alternative date then the 26th will become a normal school day!”
