I have now entered what many may term as the most important phase of an individual’s life: applying to university.

‘Why do you want to study at our university?’ ‘How will you impact or get involved within the university community?’ ‘How have all your experiences impacted you?’ ‘Why are you interesting in studying this course?’

The questions seem endless, the clock keeps ticking and eventually you find yourself the day before application deadlines with a myriad of incomprehensible gumbo.

The possibilities are endless and while I am extremely excited about the prospects of college life, I am also quite nervous.

While it is simple enough to vision about studying at a top university and making many new friends, actually getting in is a completely different matter.

It is the harsh reality that the world we live in has become even more competitive than ever.

What with even more people applying for even fewer university seats the pressure is on all of us to prove why we deserve to be even considered.

It has been constantly reiterated that it is our application essays that truly matter. We have to paint an unusually flattering portrait of ourselves, essentially selling ourselves and proving we are worthy.

Did I forget to mention we have only 4,000 characters for British universities and around 300 words for American colleges? No pressure, right?

In all honesty, what is suitable? What is worthy of being filtered through 17 years of existing?

Being on the cusp of a new adventure feels amazing and even though it is taxing, I hope I am able to reap the benefits of all those hours of writing and re-writing.

It is indeed a very difficult job, so please do wish me luck.

Now surely, ‘please accept me’ doesn’t sound too desperate?
