Charity show
The Tamil Social and Cultural Association (Tasca) is organising a charity show, Musical Nite 2006, to be held on October 27 at 6pm at the Indian School grounds in Isa Town. Starring music director Deva, singer Malathi, television star Shyam and professional dancers Derpa and Narendra, the show aims to raise funds to support the families of victims who died in the Gudaibiya labour camp fire. Trafalgar Day Ball
The Bahrain branch of the Royal Society of St George is set to host its annual Trafalgar Day Ball on November 2 at the Grand Ambassador Suite in the Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel. Tantra party
Gen X and Media Express will be hosting a musical show at the Tantra party being held at the Marina Club, Manama. on October 26. The highlight will be the performance by DJ Aqeel. Classic vocals
The Indian Fine Arts Society (IFAS) is holding a Carnatic classical vocal music programme on October 19 at 6.30pm at the Bahrain Society of Engineers hall in Juffair. The show will have performances by Sangeetha Ramprasad for vocal, Sunil Bhaskar on violin, Sajith Sankaran on mridangam, Ganesan on ganjira and Balakrishnan on morsing. Entrance is free.
Tonic with that Sid, sir?
Saudi-based British band Sid and the Tonics will be performing the sounds of the 80s and 90s at the Dilmun Club on October 26. The event is open for members at BD8 and guests at BD12. For more information, contact the club on 17-690926.
Jewellery design
Tubli-based jewellery designer Kim Lane has announced two Open House Exhibition weekends, October 20 and 21 and November 16 and 17. October timing are from 11am to 5pm. Of course, this month’s show is the perfect time to find a unique jewellery set for Eid gifts, or stock up on very inexpensive earrings (most are BD0.500). Atash at the BCC
On Wednesday, October 18, the Bahrain Cinema Club is showing Palestinian film Atash, by director Tawfik Abu Wael. The cast includes Hussein Yassin Mahajne and Amal Bweerat and is an ambiguous political parable about displaced Palestinians in Israel.
