There has been a significant drop in the number runaway housemaids looking for shelter at their embassies this year compared to in past years.
If we put a positive spin on this, it seems to show that people are starting to treat their employees more humanely.
Of course the negative spin to it could imply that treatment has got worse rather than better and that housemaids are so terrified of the consequences that they don’t dare run away.
Personally I prefer to believe that people are intrinsically good not bad so I’m inclined to lean towards the positive. Like I’ve said in the past, it’s an arduous path but the trend would tend to imply that life for the majority of workers in Bahrain can and will only get better.
