Eduardo Pablo M Maglaya, Ambassador, Embassy of the Philippines in Bahrain. Overseas Filipino workers are known across the world as hardworking, adaptable, easily trainable and service-oriented. Filipino nurses are no exception. In addition to these qualities, Filipino nurses are also known for their caring ways, excellent bedside manners and facility of the English language.

Please note that all Filipino nurses, who compose the medical staff of hospitals around the globe, underwent rigid training in nursing schools in the Philippines. They graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a four-year holistic curriculum which integrates intensive theoretical training, clinical practice and community service; thus, effectively preparing them for future specialised and technical courses.

By nature, Filipinos are a caring community, thus are naturally geared towards the medical profession. Aside from this innate quality, Filipinos are attracted to the nursing profession due to the employment opportunities and the financial rewards that this sector provides.

There is an increasing demand for nurses on a global scale. Highly trained and well-experienced Filipino nurses are prepared to fill in this demand, most particularly in developed nations where there is an increasing graying population.

There are an estimated 35,000 to 40,000 overseas Filipino workers in Bahrain. Half of these workers are women.
